On a recent afternoon at clubs in Macon and Warner Robins:
·180 kids were gaining poise and self-confidence while learning the art of ballroom dance;
·15 teenagers were writing and editing copy for a 30-minute newscast they will produce;
·Local firemen were instructing 100 young men in healthy, responsible behavior in Passport to Manhood classes; and
·Members were visiting with elderly residents of a nursing home they adopted.
All this – and much more – goes on at our clubs everyday, under the careful guidance and leadership of our staff.Kids, some of whom have very few other opportunities in life, learn leadership skills, enhance their academic progress and absorb all the important lessons that athletics teach us, from cooperation and teamwork to perseverance and lifelong fitness habits.The hours between 3pm and 6pm are when the Boys & Girls Club does its greatest work.
