How Gifts Benefit Our Children and Our Community
Middle Georgia struggles with many of the social problems that plaque large metropolitan areas. And without support and intervention, our children may become just another statistic. In Bibb County, for example:
·Nearly 20% of families survive on incomes less than $15,000.
·40% of students drop out of high school.
·Less than one third of students scored at or above the national median in math on norm-referenced tests taken in eighth grade.
·54 youth aged 15-17 out of 1,000 will become pregnant.
·And the rate of violent deaths to teens is nearly twice the state rate.
However, there is hope.Boys & Girls Clubs offers a safe-haven amid the chaos and a brighter picture of the future:
·More than half of Boys & Girls Club alumni state that “the Club really saved my life.”
·80% say that the Club helped them know right from wrong.
·70% believe the Club helped them avoid difficulties with the law.
·Children in our Project Learn had overall grade point averages 15% higher than youth in other after school programs.
·Where there are Clubs in public housing communities, there are 13% fewer juvenile crimes and 22% less drug activity.
Boys & Girls Clubs is making a difference in the quality of life in our entire community.Did you know that our programs are also used in after school programs?
The Boys & Girls Club Annual Fund ensures that we will save more lives and build a stronger community for today and tomorrow – one child at a time.
